Our Objectives

Quality use of medicines

  • Members provide safe and effective products to prevent, treat and cure illness or maintain health
  • Members’ marketing and promotion of generic medicines supports the Quality Use of Medicines
  • Members provide only good quality, accurate, balanced information and education services that are conducive to the Quality use of Medicines
  • Members do not provide information and/or engage in educational activities that are not conducive to the Quality use of Medicines
  • In all their relationships with health care professionals and consumers, members reflect upon the principles of the Quality Use of Medicines to ensure their actions support these principles

Promotional and educational activities

  • Members promote their products in accordance with the requirements of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989, including the conditions of registration
  • All marketing practices and educational activities are evidence-based and support the principles of the Quality Use of Medicines
  • Members ensure that for products listed on the Schedule of Pharmaceutical Benefits all promotional and marketing activities are in accordance with any PBS restrictions and contain accurate and current information regarding any PBS restrictions
  • Members ensure that their employees undertaking promotional or educational activities are appropriately trained and educated

Product availability

  • Members make all reasonable endeavours to ensure their products remain available to pharmacy for the duration of listing

Advertising activities

  • All GBMA member’s advertising activities, which fall within the statutory meaning of “advertising” comply with the Therapeutic Goods Advertising Code

Relationship with healthcare professionals and the general public

  • Members act with honesty and integrity in all their relationships with healthcare professionals and the general public
  • Members respect the values, codes and regulations of other professional organisations
  • Members ensure their behaviour and relationships with others do not bring discredit to the generic medicines industry
  • Members ensure their behaviour does not interfere or impede the independence of health care professionals or their professional judgement
  • Members’ behaviour is driven to produce positive health outcomes
  • Members’ behaviour supports the enhancement of the Quality Use of Medicines

Research and regulatory activities

  • Members conduct all research and development activities in compliance with the established medical tenets, scientific principles and ethical requirements for clinical and pre-clinical experimentation

Manufacture and distribution

  • Members manufacture their products in strict compliance with the Australian Code of Good Manufacturing Practice for Medicinal Products and applicable occupational health and safety, and environmental requirements
  • Members ensure that the distribution of their products is conducted according to all legislative requirements and that procedures are maintained to allow tracking of distribution and recall of product

Corporate governance

  • Members conduct their businesses ethically and honestly extending those principles to all stakeholders including their employees
  • Members support a culture of good corporate citizenship within their organisation and encourage, where possible, philanthropic activities especially those that promote good health within Australia and the principles of the Quality Use of Medicines
