Congratulations to Prof Jane Halton on her new appointment

June 27, 2014 By Emilia

26 June 2014.

Members of the Generic Medicines Industry Association (GMiA) congratulate the outgoing Secretary of the Department of Health, Professor Jane Halton, on her new appointment as Secretary of the Department of Finance.

Prof Jane Halton was appointed as Secretary of the Department of Health in January 2002. At age 42 she was the youngest department head and she was only the second women to make department secretary in the federal public service.

Prof Halton has always started policy discussions with the facts in her interactions with GMiA. She is committed to the public subsidy of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and recognises the key role played by the generic medicines sector.

Prof Halton is a dedicated public servant and has expressed her motivation as follows, “because of the interesting nature of the work – not often do you get to work on issues that are so critically important to the community“.

We wish Prof Halton well in her new role as Secretary of the Department of Finance. ENDS
